This ukiyo-e is another Red Fuji. But unlike "South Wind, Clear Sky - Red Fuji", cloud floats far below the summit and raining down there. So, the sky is foggy white in stead of clear blue. Magnificent Mount Fuji shape and color is very highlighted.

 

What is Fugaku 36 Views? (Thirty-Six Views of Mount. Fuji)

Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji is an ukiyo-e series of color woodblock prints by the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849). This series depicts Mount Fuji from a variety of different locations, weather conditions, seasons, and time. Originally 36 were published, but due to its high popularity, added another 10. Very unique in its color and perspective and this series made Picture of Beauty Spot by woodprint very popular in Japan. And it is said great influence to Western painters such as Gogh and Debussy.

Who is Katsushika Hokusai?

Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) was an Ukiyo-e painter and printmaker in Edo Era. Hokusai is best-known as Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji Ukiyo-e series. He made this series because it was a domestic travel boom in Edo at that time and so he issued a kind of current travel picture. Eventually, he gained broad recognition by this series and left a lasting impact on the art world including the western artists.
