Very famous as Gogh copied out this picture. Impressive red and green bold contrast. This plum garden became very famous when 8th Shogun, Yoshimune, visited and praised. It used to have ground-hugging dragon shaped plum tree.
Who is Hiroshige Utagawa?
Hiroshige was one of the last great Ukiyo-e artists in that tradition. His art is famous for beautiful indigo blue as well as its bold contrast among Europe and America. This blue is known as Japan Blue or Hiroshige Blue. Hiroshige’s One Hundred Famous Views of Edo greatly influenced French Impressionists such as Monet. Vincent Van Gogh copied two of the One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, which were among his collection of ukiyoe prints.
